• School wall mural

When it was founded in 1938, most of Tissa was covered in jungle.

Today, Debarawewa National College is the area's top school.

It is the destination of choice for children who score the highest marks in the grade five exam so long as they live close enough, or can afford the bus fare.

As the school already has better facilities than any other in the area, we have directed our efforts towards helping disadvantaged children study there, or go onto university.

We’ve also provided lots of books for the library, trying to find interesting Sinhalese novels that aren’t available locally.

We have also provided lots of Sinhalese translations of foreign favourites such as Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes.
