• Girls reading in SRI library
In 2012, we created a library at Kiula School thanks to sponsorship from HSBC.

It was a fitting time to upgrade the school's facilities since it was celebrating its 100th anniversary.

This makes it the second oldest school in the area after nearby Mulana School where we have also done a number of projects.

Kiula had a fair number of books (about 1,000), but as in so many other libraries, they were very old and tatty.

In addition to providing lots of new books, we also set about creating a more attractive reading environment by shipping a large jungle mural over from the UK and providing open bookshelves so the children could easily peruse all the books.

In 2013, the school put in a second request for books, which we purchased from Colombo.
