This school used to be in one of the most rural parts of Tissa and was founded as part of the Lunugamwehera irrigation project. These days, it finds itself on the fringes of an area undergoing rapid change.

The ruling Rajapaksha family are determined to turn their home province of Hambantota into a thriving commercial hub and an international conference hall has recently been built just down the road. 

However, the old Sri Lanka is still very much in evidence with wild elephants still roaming around the nearby bush and school.
