When SRI first visited Yahangala school in 2013, the principal was busy teaching a class.

He explained that this was because there were only six teachers at the school.

Since his arrival in 2010, Mr Senanayaka has worked hard to improve the school's grade five exam results.

In 2013, he told us five students got more than 100 marks - pretty impressive for such a tiny school.

Like many dynamic principals he had done it by holding a lot of classes out-of-hours and during the school vacations, with the teachers giving their time for free.

One of his priorities for 2014 is to secure better sports equipment for the school.
